Description

With this home addition and remodel project, we are honored to be a part of our town’s history. The original farmhouse has existed since the early days of the area development, and our clients wanted to incorporate its story into the design. Our goal was to preserve their family’s 1920s farmhouse aesthetics while providing enough new living space to accommodate their growing family.
In 2016, we worked closely with the owner to develop a vision that would fit the past and present. We created construction plans for the renovation and addition. When the remodel and additions were completed in 2018, the home maintained much of its original structure and charm.
The project required an existing building analysis and a detailed demolition plan to preserve the bones of the existing home. This involved raising the entire house to install a new foundation, Reinforcing all the existing structural elements, and providing the proper structural details to meet current building codes.
The two additional living areas created the needed space for the growing family. The main living area addition has a large open vaulted ceiling with kitchen, dining, and utility areas. The second addition provides an owner’s suite and second-story bedrooms. These additions were attached in a way that would accommodate the original layout and complement the structural stability of the whole home.
This farmhouse renovation is more than just a restoration; it’s a meticulous preservation of history that fits seamlessly into modern living. It’s a compelling narrative that’s now a part of the landscape, and we’re thrilled to have been a part of the design process. You can check out our design journey here, and we’re excited that our clients and contractors have breathed new life into the past while embracing future demands.
